In 2015 The Wright Event was asked to organise a team building event with a festival feel for a leading property company to celebrate their 15th anniversary. The event was held over two days and was a huge success. Since 2015 our client has continued to grow and many of the new recruits got to hear about the summer festival event and asked if this was something which would be repeated as it looked like fun. Well, the powers to be hadn’t really planned on doing another one until 2020 to celebrate their 20th anniversary but as it had been such a great event and all the staff were really keen they thought, what the hell, and Nestival (Next Festival) was born.
The Wright Event was told that the follow up event had to be bigger and better, a tall brief considering just how amazing the first festival was, but, never one to shirk a challenge, The Wright Event took it on and, we are pleased to say, we delivered and surpassed all expectations!
The theme was to be James Bond and it was important that as many of the activities as possible had a strong team building element. 390 people coming from our clients London and Milton Keynes offices arrived at Ashtree Farm and were divided into 12 teams. As structured corporate team building events go, this was huge as 12 teams rotated around five different team building activities with teams being scored on each one:
- – Cocktail making workshop
- – Pontoon build and Rocket Launch
- – Carnival float design and creation
- – GPS treasure hunt (Spycatcher themed)
- – Learn to perform a song (Skyfall, in this instance)
Each team was allocated a boys and a girls “Giant Tipi” where they would be spending the night. However, one of the Tipis had been fully “Glamped up” with mattresses, duvets, pillows, side tables and a chill out zone and the team which headed the leader board on completion of the first day of activities would get to have this Tipi for the evening. One big difference to your average festival where guests have to use wet wipes (or simply go without a wash)…we were having none of that. Plush shower units, changing rooms and luxury toilets were provided for all to use.
So our guests were able to adorn their party frocks and dancing shoes before venturing over to the party marquee, a giant marquee which encompassed four apple trees as well as a huge dance floor, a stage and two bars. Outside delicious street food was served from food stalls and the party ran late into the night with our live 10 piece band the “Earth Lights” keeping everyone on the dance floor. The evening culminated with a fantastic firework display.
On day two the teams took part in two Grand Finales. Firstly they had to parade the “James Bond Themed” carnival floats that they had constructed the day before in front of our panel of judges who would award further points. This was then followed by the teams having to parade their pontoons to our lake where they were tasked with getting at least two team members from the shore and onto the island from where they would launch their rockets.
The event was a huge success and we are sure it will be repeated. As well as having two days of full on fun our client sees the benefits of staff members getting to know colleagues they wouldn’t normally get to meet. As a team bonding exercise, there can be nothing more successful at achieving this than a team building event such as this.
